Several countries around the world have already embraced and accepted water reuse. Israel currently beneficially reuses more than 70% of its effluent. Singapore, with its NEWater facilities, reuses 15%, but plans to double that proportion in the near future. Australia, now at 8%, has a national goal of 30% reuse by 2015. In the United States, approximately 5% to 6% of the 34.9 billion gallons per day of municipal wastewater effluent generated is reclaimed and beneficially reused.

Of the many states within the United States benefiting from reuse, Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas account for 90% of water reuse. However, it is important to note that many other states in all parts of the country are using water reuse more and more. States such as Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, and Maryland are quickly learning that water reuse solutions are vital to helping sustain our natural resources and expand our water supplies.
